Crash course on operations management for hospital managers

This 3h course will focus on operations management in healthcare.

Objectives: 
- discuss the fundamentals of operations management; 
- comprehend operations management concepts in the healthcare services context; 
- understand the need for integral planning capacity and process optimization to handle increased demand and improve access.

Demographic and macro-economic developments force hospitals to rethink the way they organize their processes. The field of Operations Management is concerned with designing and organizing processes so that they are both efficient and effective. In recent years, promising new concepts were developed for integral optimization of hospital processes. Pilot studies in Dutch hospitals show promising impacts on productivity, quality of care, and quality of labor. This crash course/tutorial introduces these new concepts and explains the basic underlying principles. It also discusses how interested hospitals should engage with such approaches to effectively implement them.
