Gerben Bekema

Project Manager, University Medical Center in Utrecht, NL

Gerben Bekema is Project Manager at the University Medical Center in Utrecht (UMCU) and Procurement Lead for the Nightingale PCP project.

Previously, he worked as a senior medical buyer at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam until 2013, and as a senior procurement consultant at the University Medical Center in Utrecht until 2016.

Currently, Gerben works as a Project Manager in UMCU, where he is working on projects that are somehow related to (professionalization of) procurement. As example, he is working on a project to improve collecting and sharing transparent management information between the Finance, Purchasing and Medical departments, to be able to make better decisions related to the health services that UMC Utrecht delivers. Also he leads innovation procurement projects, and acts as the Procurement Lead for the Nightingale PCP project. At the same time, Gerben is finishing his Master of Business Administration (MBA) with specialization in Health Care. His personal goal is to transform procurement within European hospitals from price driven procurement to value/outcome based procurement
