Luís Campos

Chairman of Working Group on Professional Issues and Quality of Care (EFIM)

Degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, in 1978. Master in Quality Management of Health Services, University of Murcia, 2001. Board certified in Medical Emergency and Health Management, in 2003. Post-graduation in Emergency Services Management by the INDEG Business School ISCTE, in 2006. Assistant of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of UNL from 1992 to 2013 and, since then, Invited Professor. He is Honorary Fellow of the American College of Physicians, since 2017.

Luís Campos is actually chairman of the Working Group on Professional Issues and Quality of Care of the European Federation of Internal Medicine, since 2017, director of the Internal Medicine Department of Saint Francisco Xavier Hospital, in Lisbon, since 2006; advisor of the General Directorate of Health, since 2009; member of the Advisory Council of the National Health Plan 2016-2020, since 2014; member of the National Committee for Literacy and Integrated Care and of the National Committee for Reference Centers, since 2016: member of the White Paper Committee for the Future of the Portuguese National Health Service, since 2018.

 

Previous Functions

Among previous functions, Luís Campos was president of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine from 2016 to 2018, president of the National Council for Quality in Healthcare from 2009 to 2016; member of the working group that prepared the report of Portugal for the OECD report on "Geographic variations in Healthcare", in 2014; member of the Commission for follow-up of the Hospital Reform, from 2013 to 2015; invited professor at the National School of Public Health from 2011 to 2014; member of the Scientific Committee for Good Clinical Practices, from 2011 to 2014; national coordinator of the Electronic Health Record, in 2011; national coordinator of the Autoimmunity Study Group of the Internal Medicine Portuguese Society, from 2003 to 2011; advisor of the National Institute for Medical Drugs in the introduction of new drugs, from 2007 to 2011; member of the Coordinating Group for the design of new hospitals of José de Mello Saúde, from 2003 to 2009; member of the National Committee for the Emergency Reform, from 2006 to 2008; director of the Emergency Department of the Western Area of ​​the Lisbon, at Saint Francisco Xavier Hospital, from 2003 to 2006; coordinator of the Quality Program of the Lisbon Heath Region, from 1998 to 2000; advisor of the Macao Government in the area of ​​Health, from 1997 to 1999; advisor of the Azores Regional Government, in 1998.

Over the years he has served as president of several hospital committees, at various times, he held several positions in the organization of scientific meetings, among which he was president of the XXI National Congress of Internal Medicine in 2015, president of the I and  II International Forum on the Chronic Illness in 2006 and 2010, president of the 1st National Congress of Autoimmunity in 2009, co-chair of the 6th International Congress on Autoimmunity in 2008 and in 2018, among others.

Luís Campos is a member of the Scientific Council of several national scientific journals, having held more than 400 conferences. He authored or co-authored about 340 communications, dozens of publications and 16 book chapters. He was co-editor of the book "Governance of Hospitals", in 2009 and was editor of the book "Internal Medicine Protocols", in 2012.
