Niall Herity

Coordinator, Belfast Trust’s New Directions project, UK

Dr Niall Herity has been a consultant cardiologist in Belfast since 2000, with interests in transradial intervention, primary PCI and complex PCI. He graduated from University College Dublin in 1988 and undertook medicine and cardiology training in Belfast and Stanford University Medical Center in California. He has published in the fields of cardiac physiology, coronary artery remodelling and acute coronary syndromes

He was Clinical Director of cardiology from 2009 to 2017 in the Belfast Trust, one of the largest cardiology services in the UK, which provides comprehensive cardiology services to a region of 1.8 million people. During this time he led a series of service developments, including the design and implementation of a primary PCI service for Northern Ireland. He has implemented several other service developments including an Ambulatory Cardiology Unit and an Ambulatory Clinical Assessment Unit linked to the Emergency Department

He leads the Belfast Trust’s New Directions project, which plans to reconfigure all adult clinical services across Belfast  and in March 2017, he chaired the Elective Care Centre workstream as part of the Northern Ireland Department of Health’s wider Health Service Transformation programme
