Sasa Jenko Kokalj, Ph.D., Head of Sector, European Commission, DG Research & Innovation, E3- Fighting infectious diseases and advancing public health.
Sasa holds a Ph.D. in biomedicine from University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She was an EMBO fellow at Jacobs University Bremen, Germany and a Fulbright Scholar at UC Berkeley, USA. She later turned to a career in science policy and management, working as a Scientific Officer and currently as Head of Sector at the European Commission. Her initial portfolio was structural genomics and high-throughput technologies, then epigenomics and epigenetics, personalised medicine and currently public health research including health systems and services.
