Margrieta Lagins

Senior Fellow, International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC)

Maggie is a senior fellow at the International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC). She joined IFIC in November 2017 to lead in developing the roadmap for the Horizon 2020 cross-European funded  the research project ‘SUSTAIN’, short for ‘Sustainable Tailored Integrated Care for Older People in Europe’. The project aims to support and monitor improvements to integrated care initiatives across Europe for older people living at home with multiple health and social care needs. This work has involed working in close collaboration with health and social care staff in 13 sites across 7 countries in Europe. Initiatives involved five different areas of care: home nursing services, transitional care, dementia care, primary care, and rehabilitative care.

 

A trained nurse and former WHO technical officer, Maggie has worked in the international health field for more than 15 years. During her time at the WHO Regional Office for Europe she worked with with the Division of Health Systems and Public Health on its Human Resources for Health and the Health Services Delivery programmes. During this time she helped shape the understanding of how to advance and support competencies in the delivery of integrated care.

 

During her career, Maggie has worked in Croatia, United Kingdom, Ghana, Greece, Kazakhstan, Latvia, the Republic of Moldova and Uzbekistan. She has a particular interest in the role of different stakeholders in supporting a health workforce to deliver quality health services and introducing quality improvement mechanisms.
