Commenced nurse training in 1984 and qualified as a General Nurse in 1987. Worked in paediatrics as a junior staff nurse before commencing mental health nurse training in 1989. Qualified as a mental health nurse in 1990 and worked clinically in a variety of areas covering all age groups including children, adults and older people, at a variety of management levels.
In 2008 left the clinical position of Service Manager for Older Peoples Mental Health Services in Doncaster to become Assistant Director of Commissioning for the portfolio group of Vulnerable People. Commissioning responsibility involved managing a commissioning budget of over £120m for mental health, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, substance misuse, forensic, secure services, specialist placements and Continuing Healthcare Services.
From 2014 to 2017 became the Dementia Lead for Doncaster which was a joint and integrated role covering all domains of dementia provision in Doncaster. Was responsible for producing and ensuring the successful and effective delivery of a district wide dementia strategy.
Became an independent commissioning consultant in 2017 and has provided expertise for Hull CCG, TIDE, Life Story Network, NHS England, ICHOM, NICE and NCCMH in the last 12 months.
